Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get certified?

The certification process is designed to be self-paced, allowing you to integrate it meaningfully with your school's/college's ongoing development cycles and priorities. There is no fixed deadline upon registration, enabling you to focus on genuine implementation.

While the timeline varies depending on a school's/college's starting point, resources, and the level being pursued, many schools/colleges find they can gather sufficient evidence and achieve certification, particularly at the Explorer or Practitioner level, within one academic year of focused effort.

How long does certification last?

The AI in Education Certification is valid for three years from the date of award. After this period, schools/colleges can reapply to maintain their certified status and demonstrate ongoing commitment to excellence and development in AI integration, ensuring standards remain current with the evolving field.

Can we apply directly for higher levels?

Yes, you can apply directly for the level (Practitioner or Innovator) that you believe accurately reflects your school's/college's current practice. However, please note that the assessment requires demonstrating evidence that meets all criteria for the target level and all preceding levels (e.g. Innovator application requires meeting Explorer, Practitioner, and Innovator criteria).

What evidence is needed?

Evidence submission is designed to be flexible. Examples include relevant documents (policies, strategic plans, meeting notes), practical examples (lesson plans, project outlines), website links, images (screenshots, photos), anonymised samples, or brief written descriptions clearly demonstrating your practice in relation to the specific framework criteria. Comprehensive guidance is provided with framework access.

What happens if we are unsuccessful?

Our certification process emphasises development. If your initial submission does not meet the criteria for your chosen level, you will receive constructive feedback from our expert assessors identifying specific areas for further development. You can then continue to enhance your practice, gather further evidence, and request reassessment when ready.

Is there support available?

Yes, support is integral to the process. Access to the framework includes comprehensive guidance materials detailing the criteria and suggesting potential evidence types. Additionally, we offer further support resources, such as informative webinars and CPD opportunities, to assist schools and colleges throughout their certification journey.
