Epsom College in Malaysia has become the first school outside the UK to achieve Explorer status within the AiEd Certified Framework - a significant milestone that marks the beginning of the programme's international reach.
Epsom College in Malaysia is closely connected to Epsom College in the UK. That relationship has fostered genuine cross-campus collaboration, with colleagues sharing ideas and learning from one another as both schools navigate the opportunities and challenges of AI in education.
Andrew Thompson, Deputy Headteacher: Teaching, Learning & Standards at Epsom College in Malaysia, described the certification as a valuable process for the school: "We have found this process extremely informative and useful for reflecting on our school's AI provision. Embracing digital technology and use of AI is a key part of our school development plan, therefore this process has been instrumental in helping us identify what we are doing well and what needs further improvement."
Welcoming the achievement, Mark Lascelles, Head of Epsom College UK, said: "Congratulations to Epsom College in Malaysia on becoming the first international school to achieve the AI in Education Explorer certification. This is a significant milestone and reflects the thoughtful and collaborative work taking place across the Epsom community.
It has been particularly pleasing to see colleagues across our schools working together, sharing ideas and supporting one another as we explore the opportunities and challenges of AI in education.
The AI in Education framework is already helping schools develop confidence in AI. It is exciting to see its impact now extending across international schools and helping shape future-ready education in a responsible and practical way."
Dr Sarah Alcock, Programme Director of AiEd Certified, added: "It is wonderful to see the AiEd Certified Framework extending beyond the UK for the first time. Epsom College in Malaysia has approached the process with real thoughtfulness, using it not just as a benchmark but as a genuine tool for reflection and improvement. This achievement demonstrates that the framework is relevant and valuable for schools internationally, and we look forward to supporting more schools as they begin their own AI journeys."
