Epsom College (Secondary) - AI-Powered English Literature Tutoring
Epsom College trialled Inkling, a safe, education-specific AI tutoring platform, within the English department to support GCSE English Literature study. Under staff guidance, the tool uses guided questioning and discussion to encourage deeper thinking rather than generating answers, preventing cognitive offloading.
The trial delivered high impact: 74% of pupils reported that the AI tutor encouraged deeper thinking about the topics and ideas within their GCSE set texts, while 47% said it helped them understand the text better than when working independently. Following this success, Epsom is thoughtfully expanding the platform into additional subjects to responsibly enhance independent learning across a wider pupil cohort.
